HOLISTIC BEAUTY

My journey with autoimmune skin psoriasis. Beleza by Z tallow skincare. Intermittent fasting. Sun exposure. Animal-based diet.

From Struggling to Thriving: My Journey with Skin Psoriasis

Living with psoriasis is more than just managing flares or hiding red patches—it's a deeply personal and often emotional journey that intertwines with every aspect of life. For years, I struggled with not only the physical symptoms but also the mental toll of feeling overwhelmed by conflicting information about what my body needed to heal.

I created this space because I believe in holistic healing and non-judgmental dialogue. My journey has taught me the power of asking questions, thinking critically, and reconnecting with my body. Healing is not a one-size-fits-all approach—it’s about knowing oneself. Today, I want to share how I transformed my skin and my life, offering tips and insights that might resonate with you, too.

Rediscovering Health Through Holistic Approaches

After 15 years of "incurable" skin psoriasis, I made a bold decision: I would kick the lifetime prescription steroid creams to the curb and start listening to my body. This led me to embrace an unconventional lifestyle: a high-fat, animal-based diet in combination with intermittent fasting, plus a few minutes of daily sun exposure without sunscreen. Whaaat? Yes! You read that right. Here’s how these practices reshaped my health:

1. Animal-Based Lifestyle

For so long, I feared animal fats because of what we’ve been told—heart disease, cholesterol, and weight gain. But the truth is, animal-based foods such as fatty red meat, organ meats and grass-fed tallow for cooking are packed with essential vitamins, a full amino acid profile, and fats that are crucial for skin repair and immune regulation.

Beef Tallow: The star ingredient in my healing journey and the foundation of my skincare line (although processed differently from suet, not from cooking tallow). It’s deeply nourishing for the skin barrier, free from irritants, and an excellent source of fat-soluble vitamins.

Gut Healing: Switching to whole, unprocessed animal foods reduced inflammation in my gut, which directly impacted my skin health.

2. Intermittent Fasting For Cell Autophagy

Giving my body time to rest and repair was a game-changer. Daily fasting by eating one or two meals within a six-hour window allowed my gut lining to heal, reduced systemic inflammation, and helped me better regulate my immune system. It wasn’t about restriction but rather about giving my body the time it needed to do what it’s naturally designed to do—heal.

3. The Magic of Sunlight

Working in the skin care industry, where we are often told that a plant-based diet and plant-based products are best for us, and that that we must avoid the sun to prevent cancer and wrinkles, I still experienced chronic skin inflammation and vitamin D deficiency, even with supplementation. This prompted me to learn more about the healing power of sunlight. Once I voiced my concern about the side effects of long-term prescription drugs to my dermatologist, he suggested responsible sun exposure each day. This boosted my immune system with higher vitamin D levels, reduced inflammation, and improved my mood. Balance is the key—limiting sun exposure, being mindful of the sun’s peak hours, listening to your body, and honoring its limits. Yes, sunscreen is still necessary. As a holistic aesthetician, I still use it and still recommend it, especially on the face and neck, as long as it’s a physical sunscreen such as zinc oxide.

This was my skin while eating a "healthy" plant-based diet, no sun exposure, and applying prescription steroid cream Triamcinolone acetonide. Psoriasis was not only on my scalp but also behind the ears, inside the ears, along the hairline, including the torso and lower body.

Within three months of daily sun exposure, eliminating all plant-based food (especially vegetable seed oils), and discontinuing prescription cream.

Six months later, after incorporating daily intermittent fasting!

Breaking Free From Fear-Based Health Narratives

I get it—deciding to embrace animal-based eating, fasting, or sun exposure can feel like going against the grain. We’ve been told these things are dangerous, that they lead to heart disease, cancer, or obesity. But sometimes, the very things we’re taught to avoid hold the keys to healing. My experience taught me to let go of fear and lean into critical thinking. What feels right for your body might not align with mainstream advice—and that’s okay.

Let’s Heal Together

Healing from psoriasis taught me that it’s not just about finding the “right” diet or skincare routine—it’s about being open to new ideas, experimenting without judgment, and sharing what works. We are all unique, and what worked for me may inspire you to uncover what works for you.

I encourage you to explore, learn, and trust your journey. One book that changed the way I view nutrition and “healthy” foods is Toxic Superfoods by Sally K. Norton. It’s a must-read for anyone curious about how plant compounds might be impacting their health.
